After a crazy few weeks of incessant news flow, I experimented with writing a Weekly Recap that ties together what I consider to be the biggest Themes of the Week in an effort to defrag my own brain.
Three weeks in, I am finding that it clutters my brain more, so I am going to discontinue Weekly Recaps and get back to my roots of putting out deeper thought pieces here. I do not ever want to feel compelled to put out a constant barrage of stuff just for the sake of adhering to a cadence as I feel that would compromise my quality and integrity.
While I cannot guarantee a regular publishing cadence since I write only when inspiration strikes, my goal is to deliver content that cuts through the noise instead of becoming part of the noise. Quality over quantity.
Speaking of this platform, Elon Musk has declared all-out war on Substack. Yesterday, he disallowed the embedding of Tweets into Substack posts. Today, he disallowed all likes, comments, retweets and even pins of Substack content. Ironically, I only started actively writing on Substack because Twitter banned me in January for no reason and explanation.
I find these actions to be more than a little hypocritical from a self-purported advocate of “free speech.” This latest salvo from Elon further dissuades me from putting my thought pieces on the increasingly unpredictable and capricious Twitter platform.
I’ll end this missive by letting you know that I’m committed to Substack.
I hereby invoke my inner Rebel:
Pivot Announcement - No, Not The Fed!
Your pivot sounds like a good one, Michael. I disagree with Musk's latest pivot. My assumption that he has designs on creating a competing venue via Twitter appears correct. That he is blocking Substack in such a manner leads me to believe he is growing desperate for revenue.
Interestingly, the ability to like Substack posts has returned, but not the ability to comment. Moreover, I've found no restrictions on at least one of the Twitter files journalists. Such selective enforcement should go against Musk's ethics; what is he thinking?
Despite past, present, and future blunders, I believe Elon's takeover of Twitter has thus far done far more good than harm. I'll take what I can get these days.
Excellent news, Michael. Your writing, knowledge and manners are superb. A rare combination these days.
